That is, admittedly, the down side. Have to shave the scalp about once every 3 days.

Funny thing, I let my hair grow out for over a month early in 2010, and then when I started shaving again I found I only had to do it once a week for months thereafter. Somehow not shaving for a spell resulted in slower hair growth (temporarily anyway).

But presumably you use a comb once in awhile, or maybe as a physicist you just grab hold of a Van de Graaff generator to straighten the hairs out. 😉

Every single time this stuff is tried in a lab by someone who is not paid by Proctor, Gamble &al. to spout the desired numbers, the practice turns out to be completely different. These magical, nutricialising, enrichifying hair care products, now with NEW! Extra all-nat ...[text shortened]... there are very good reasons why you should believe them over the manufacturers).

Apparently Ph is important, but you are probably right about all the other special products.

Once, I was out of the cleaning liquid for cleaning the wash basin/sink. So I used a few drops of shampoo. It really cleaned up the sink..... makes you wonder if it is so strong as to clean up a sink then it may be too stron for our hair.

My hair goes crap after I wash it. I like the natural oils which seem to dry up when I do have to wash. Those natural oils are way more awesome than shampoo

I guess as a parent I do have to wash 🙂

yes, the "enriching" terminology just pushes the consumer buttons, but i can tell you that there's a real difference in shampoos. that doesn't mean that the more expensive ones are that much better, but there are differences in how my hair looks and feels after i shampoo and for more than just like half an hour. i don't care about enriched. i like it to feel clean and look nice and brush easy and smell nice too. you label that with any word you want.

Well, the food that you ate, rater. Hair, except that in the follicle, is dead, so what you are currently eating won't do a lot for your current golden locks.

It's the hair "health" that gets me. Hair is dead. Well, except in the follicle. It's by definition not healthy.

It's the shampoos that advertise vitamins to help the hair that really raise my eyebrow. Yeah, I guess they could be passing vitamins to the follicle, but come on. I doubt a 30-second exposure to shampoo is going to be a great vitamin delivery method. A far more effective way would obviously be dietary changes.

It's all just silly marketing.

Some interesting thoughts and research.

We should have a weekly 'house hold commodity' thread, and analyse the whys and wherefores and experiences of why buy items, and what we feel are good and bad, true and false, about them. 😉

The absolute worst offenders are antibacterial soaps and toilet cleaners. Both are extremely bad for the environment and the user, and are marketed on false pretences.

OK. I'm going to introduce the weekly thread, to be continued by all, at will.

Everybody feel free to introduce topics and pet hates, also at will. We might get into a Two Ronnies sketch where we are referring to different items (four candles/fork handles 😀), but we aren't daft people and can follow.

I will start with a pet hate of mine, "face towels", or in English 'flannels'.

Tailor made cigarette butts-they should never be thrown away as most end up in the oceans where fish eat them and die 🙁
Rollies break down way more quickly and can be chucked on the side of the road like compost(apple core, etc.)

But what is the alternative to toilet cleaners?

If you really need it looking shiny, then ordinary soap will do. There is absolutely no reason to use soap that kills germs, because after all, you will be using the toilet again soon, you won't be eating out of it! All the products they advertise are mostly about making you feel better about it, not making you any healthier. At the same time, most of them are extremely harmful to the environment.
