i suggest the 2005 championship should be run as follows:
start date 5th january 2005
finish date december 2005
3 round tournament.
120 days per round.
0 timeout, 60 days timebank for each player.

group size according to number of entrants
:
1000-1300 entrants requires groupsize 11
700-1000 entrants requires groupsize 10
500-700 entrants requires groupsize 9
300-500 entrants requires groupsize 8
200-300 entrants requires size 7
100-200 entrants requires size 6
less than 100 entrants would not deserve the name of "championship"

I like the format and the idea of an annual rhp championship. Only I think it might be too late to start the 2005 championship by January 5th and get a good majority of the players to join in on time, then again it might not be too late if Russ acts fast

Nice idea, I will create it right away.

262 entrants so far. Certainly does deserve the name.

Glad I found where it all started. Looking forward to being knocked out of the championship in the first round...

Yeh me too. Normally there are no more than 10 higher rated players when i enter a tournie. This one has about 150 at least!!!

Great idea, but I think the timebank should be set to 40 days instead. A 60 day timebank won't guarantee, that the tourney does finish in late 2005, because T/O's aren't forced. The Big Timebank Challenge II is still running after some 100 days even though the timebank is set to 40 days. If both players decides to play on and manage to avoid the auto T/O's, the games can go on forever.

unfortunately you are corrrect ... there is a problem ... "the big timebank challenge 2" is in this situation at the moment.
the two day lag before autotimeout means that some games can drag on almost indefinitely past what might be expected ... this problem is larger for short timebank games.
changing the timeout from 60 to 40 days will not solve the problem.

... the auto timeouts are better enacted immediately ... the two day lag before auto timeouts can destroy the process ... hopefully russ will find a few moments to fix this problem.

Re: the format. How about everyone plays everyone else!🙄

That's about 500 or 600 concurrent games.
With only a 60 days timebank there is finally for a chance of beating a 1600+ player...!

I wouldnt mind that, I won the tournament that was everyone vs everyone but that was only around 80 concurrent games, 1 day timeout and cant remember the timebank. I think just about everyone else aside from dustn would mind 500 concurrent games though lol hahahaha.

you will make it "original" won't you?
be a shame to see a top seed eliminated just through bad luck.

It finally started 😀
I guess it is 37 groups of 12 and one group of 11, so at the least 38 players go on to round two.

My group:
1.crusoe
2.abigham
3.Zipdrive Nightmare
4.RBHILL
5.beermaestro
6.I Diddy
7.jose teixeira
8.marcof2
9.johnjava21
10.WIZ
11.toffee
12.Taqju

300-500 entrants requires groupsize 8
LOL 455 players and groups of 12.
