50x50 just isn't big enough for somone who's 12 stories tall. I think RHP should have forum avatars at least 120x120. I'm finding it hard to express myself in an avatar at 50x50.

    Can we get this fixed?

Great idea, my avatar at the moment has a drunk penguin with beer bottles and fish heads around him but how many people can actually see that properly at 50x50?

I always drag avatars into my browser's address box and they show up full size unless the avatar has spaces or something. If that is the case I do a properties on it and go direct to the link.

Many people never view the avatars at full size, and it's a shame.

would bigger avatars cause bigger drain on site servers, causing slower site response?

Avatars are stored off site, so don't directly affect the RHP servers. Could be a bit of a nightmare for people stuck on dial-up.

The bigger your avatar, the more you pay.

nah. I can link to a huge image as my avatar (if I had a star that is) and it doesn't matter that it's reduced to 50x50 here, it will still require the whole thing to load. Viewing size change will not change how much the computer needs to download.

They are already a drag on dial-up... I'm on dial up right now. The image might be a long animation, or a big picture... they just get shrunken to 50x50 regardless of size or proportions.

I'm quite happy with the size of them as they are, but wouldn't be too bothered if they increase slightly.

However, and this thanks to my recent experience of using dial-up, could we please have an option within the settings to disable veiwing avatars. With some of them being really large files, and coming from muliple servers not so easily blocked when using someone elses (i.e. my parents) machine.

Yep, an option to turn them off would be good, especially on 'chessatwork' for when I'm playing and reading chess at work, would be even more un-noticible.
