The curious thing is that anyone who cuts and pastes their games into ChessBase, WinBoard, ChessPad, etc. is instantly told during analysis if a proposed move is illegal. Are those players cheating?
Originally posted by Redmike Why not also have an icon which tells you if your opponent's queen is en prise? Or an icon which tells you there is a forced mate, so that you just have to find it?
It is the player's responsibility to know what moves are possible - by understanding the rules of the game.
That is how the game works.
This is a daft idea.
rubbish idea i agree, you should know if you still can castle or not, gosh.
Originally posted by Phlabibit I think the pawn needs a back-up noise when it will attack another piece. How will I know if I'm under attack withouth this feature?
Keep an open mind.

I say let's implement a feature that gives a light electric shock when you click on an illegal move, then let's implement an alarm sound when clicking into a blunder........... 😀

All too easy.

Kinda hard for you to tell when someone is being sardonic? Back to your usual inappropriate and bizzare comments.
Originally posted by John oyates It would be fab to have a small icon on the main board or the analyse board areas (or both) to let us know if a 'CASTLEING' move is still available, doing away with the need to scroll through all moves backwards or from scratch in order to refresh our memory. 😀
I have always wanted Russ to create a chess set that woulds shake its head yes if its the right move and no if it is the wrong move so I can spend more time in the forums beating up sissies.
Originally posted by John oyates The problem with that approach is you can't plan ahead! Leave it that late in the game and you will have egg on your face 🙂
I can plan ahead just fine in my games without this "feature". I don't need a referee, and I don't need my hand held.
Originally posted by John oyates It's more a question of convenience, NOT knowing the rules!
You know, the Quoting feature is also a question of convenience.
It IS a question of knowing the rules. If you know the rules, you know whether or not you can castle.
As for convenience, maybe we could have a button that finishes a game for us. Or maybe a button that deposits a million dollars in my bank account. That would be convenient.
