@AttilaTheHorn saidDo you think you would use that very often?
I would like to make it possible to post a conditional move in which you state that you will make a certain move no matter which move the opponent makes.
Just very occasionally I use ordinary conditional moves to speed things up when the sequence is obvious.
Unless you convince me otherwise, I don't see that being a good use of scarce development time.
@MartinS saidNot a lot in correspondence chess really,unless you are going to be off site for a while and want to move the game along whilst you're away on vacation or something.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the point of a conditional move?
I think it's there to mimic OTB where the players make a "sealed" move before going off to bed in tournaments where the game stretches over 2 days or more.
I've never used it
@venda
When I first joined RHP, conditional moves weren't available. However, when they were eventually added, I started to use them and I use them frequently. I find them useful because they move the game along when the next move is obvious. I used to use them a lot way back in the day when I played correspondence chess by mail. A good example might be when you give check and there is only one move your opponent can play to get out of check. That's the perfect place for a conditional move.
@AttilaTheHorn saidExcuse my ignorance, but what is the point of a conditional move?
I've used a conditional move twice so far today. One was when I captured my opponent's queen with my queen. It would have left him in a completely lost position if he didn't retake my queen, so I put in a conditional move to be played automatically once he took my queen.
Points taken.
This answers the question posed above
@pawnpaw saidThere used to be a 'back to board' option - but I don't see it any more. It would be good to get that back.
Why can I not go back to the board, after I've done a Conditional move and saved it? I literally have to exit the game, ie go back to the list of my games, and start again.
Overall, I do like this feature and do use it for obvious moves etc. The one downside is if the person leaves an in-game message then you effectively ignore them - although you do get a general message to say you may have missed an in-game message.
Tbh, i like the conditional moves. And why? Because i don't play a game only and when i make a move i analise it and i know what i am doing. If it takes days for the opponent to make a move with lots of games in between, i have to reanalise it all over. A conditional move spares lots of time and avoids errors.
One thing i don't understand, unless i am missing it, is why i am unable to stack moves, when movements are previsible. Many times, namely on openings and game finals, we can stack easely 3 or 4 moves. I used to make it on other platforms so i am missing it here...
