So are there a lot of other (i.e. besides myself) gay players on RHP?

I've noticed a fair amount of far far far far right, neocon, and fundamentalist Christianity on the site in in the clans. How do we measure up in population? Visibility?

Also - why the heck aren't there more gay chess players in general. There's a real bizarre shortage of women and gay players. Over the past 24 years I've been playing IRL, I've known only 2 female chess players (and I ask just about every woman I meet) and no other gay ones.

Whats up with that?

I think you're right and I'm always surprised by the crazy conservatives on this site! And the subtle and not so subtle homophobia that goes along with it must keep a lot of people quite about their homosexuality or send them to other sites.

Brilliant idea... and while we're at it, can we please have the following too:

(1) A *special* forum for people who's second toe is longer than their big toe.
(2) A *special* forum for people with brown eyes.
(3) A *special* forum people with curly hair.
(4) A *special* forum for people who like to eat yogurt with a fork.
(5) A *special* forum for o play chess against you, talk chess and meet people with chess as the common denominator.
Please sign me up for the 'second toe longer than big toe' forum. Is there a newsleter e-mail too?

I think this is a great idea. It would expose all the homophobes out there.

Great idea. It should be followed up by gay or lesbian chess, where you can have two kings or queens.

a guy i know who coaches juniors told me that interest in chess seems pretty gender-neutral in pre-adolescent children. however, there is a huge drop-out rate among adolescent girls, presumably as they develop an interest in boys and an obsession with their personal appearance. he didn't mention gays, but no doubt it's exactly the same story. not sure where the butch lesbians would fit into this picture. there is a big drop-out rate with adolescent boys in general too, but not as huge as the girls' drop-out rate.

Aren't stereotypes grand?
