I know that some people like animated gifs and they should be able to keep them

I know that one can freeze an animated gif at a given page.

I would like to have a setting to freeze ALL animated gifs for me, since I am not a fan. Expecially the fast moving ones distract me.

You could insist that all animated gifs only play through once and then stop. I'd support that.

By settings in your browser? Maybe you can also turn them off for entire sites? Or there might be browser add-ons or scripts for that.

Just hit ESC if you're in Firefox, or STOP in IE.

    Or, to stop them permanently:

Here's the text of the "permanent stopping" link:

If you want to permanently block GIF animations in your browser, do the following:
In Firefox - Type about:config and change the value of string image.animation_mode from normal to none.
In Internet Explorer - Tools -> Options -> Advance. Uncheck the box in Multimedia group that says "Play animations in web pages"

Just tried it in IE, and it works!!!! Thank you SG, you've made my day. 😀

Be aware that his browser mod will affect all sites.
