I think you should do what scrabulous.com has done, and build a Facebook app to allow people to play chess over Facebook.
I'm a big fan of this site, but I find I now play far more scrabble than chess, despite preferring chess as a game, because I can do so on FB. I suspect many others will be in the same situation.
Apologies if others have already suggested this - I don't hang out on these fora much any more (because I'm on Facebook instead...).

For the same reason Scrabulous have, which (I assume) is that they realize they will gradually lose all their members otherwise.

I recently saw an event scheduled on facebook for somebody's funeral. I thought to myself, I wonder if I could write a eulogy on the wall? Speaking of, think somebody actually posted on the event wall: "Sorry Kevin! Would love to come but I already got plans."? I sincerely hope so.
