Being Open-Minded

Spirituality

Is being open-minded* on spiritual or philosophical matters a positive or a negative thing; is it a strength or a weakness?

* Three other questions: replace "open-minded" with [1] sceptical [2] robust [3] reflective.

If you can not know the truth about anything how can you make a decision on anything you cannot make up your mind on what is truth? You are forever speculating never coming to knowledge.

In terms of the OP, the only "knowledge" you have and that you propagate is knowledge about what you do and don't believe to be true.

I have never claimed "you cannot know the truth about anything". You are being disingenuous.

Just that God cannot be real in my life stay on topic.

Of course your faith in God can be real in your life. It is not in dispute. Don't be so disingenuous. Are you going to spam this thread?

JMHO - being open minded a positive strength. I always felt that when one is finished learning, they are finished living.

Yes and no.

For me, being "open-minded" means fathoming your thought process that led you to posing the question.

So what is it I'm thinking when I answer the question this way: ?

Being open-minded is a strength when considering all available information and possible options of outcomes.

Being open-minded is a weakness when false information is factored in when arriving at conclusions.

Now I'm asking myself, after all the auxiliary thinking that went into producing an answer to your question was finished, did I actually answer correctly? Could I have found a better rationale? How else could I have worded the answer to best express what I'm thinking without making it sound like an argument in support of my own pathetic personal opinion?

I might also add the question, is there only one right answer to every question? Like maybe there's an absolute final answer that over-arches every conceivable question and lays to rest all questions?

God?

Doesn't necessarily mean the end of questions. For example: why don't I like this post of mine? 😕

Open-minded people would be wise to be sceptical about what is declared to be "false" by people who profess your religious ideology.

You're merely echoing a sentiment held by those with no faith.

While that sentiment may sound wise, and to that way of thinking be a product of an open-mind, it is much rather a devise of skepticism as a result of close-mindedness.

For example: while saying you don't know, (that God exists), you hold to a thought process that bases skepticism about a profession on a certainty that God doesn't exist.

That's not wise.

Whose "sentiment" do you think I ought to be "echoing"?

I will let people who profess "a certainty that God doesn't exist" speak for themselves.

@FMF

You're diverging. Of course you'll disagree with that.

Going back to the OP; my mind is open. I sometimes question the reality of that of which I'm convinced. I think that's only natural given the frailty of the mind and the nature of this present age.

Then I close my eyes and see. I stop my ears and hear.

No, I'm not. But, yeah, just bail out of whatever you were on about, I don't mind

Deflecting as usual.

You usually last about four or five posts, then you get lost and start the blame game.

Apparently you were just pretending to be sincere.
