Ivanhoe, what are your feelings about the term "priesthood of the believer"?

.... I don't have any feelings about it, but I'm familiar with the term.

You will never be able to correctly understand and interprete the Scriptures reading and studying them on your own.
Why not? Were the verses you cited intended to defend your idea that correct understanding cannot be acheived without aid from the Catholic clergy?

Or were they merely an example of verses that I could not understand. If so, I admit, I did not understand them.

In case of understanding the Scriptures I would like to advise you to take a guide you can trust, a guide who will communicate the genuine and true understanding of the Scriptures, an orthodox Roman Catholic priest who is willing to teach ...[text shortened]... nterprete the Scriptures reading and studying them on your own.
This might very well be the most arrogant sincere statement I have read in Spirituality.

I certainly have no interest in sharing your genuine and true understanding about a genuine and true understanding of the Bible, for if I did, then I'd have to make this same embarassing claim.

I visited my local bookstore to peruse the selection of annotated Bibles.

I saw several varieties, inlcuding those geared toward Catholics, teens, the simple-minded, and other niche groups. I noticed that there don't seem to be any geared toward skeptics.

Does anybody know of a Bible whose annotations are primarily refutatory in nature?
yup thats easy.. Drawing Down the Moon.

I won't sugest a Bible as many already have been. I will suggest a book called " the hand that still intervenes" quite possibly the best modern day miracle/inspirational book I have ever read.

Ivanhoe, I don't believe you answered my questions, unless you intended an implicit Yes by your response.

What if you want to understand a cult? Do you just follow the leader?

You could try it. It depends of course on whether they serve free drinks ......

I see.

I suspect you have some understanding of Protestant Christianity. Did that understanding come primarily from studying under Protestant clergy? Or did you mainly pursue other avenues to reach a satisfactory understanding of it, such as Catholic writings about Protestant beliefs?

I've begun counting (although I am sure I missed some) just to point out precisely how little
he communicates when he asserts his absurd positions.

As I said it all depends on what you want. You apparently are not interested in knowledge or wisdom but simply in gathering a lot of ammo to wage your war against the religious right ...... have fun .....

Are you or have you ever been a member of the religious right Ivanhoe?

I've never actually met someone before who claimed this. Ussually just terms I hear on tv to explain why they're arguing with another person, whom of course is a member of the liberal left.
