According to the Vatican, instructing a priest to refrain from public ministry and to lead a "reserved life of prayer and penitence" constitutes discipline commensurate with sexually abusing boys as young as 10. Supporters call this finding "courageous."

From an enlightened perspective, the Church's job is to be merciful without endangering its members - "evening out" the scales of justice is left to God.

Ironically it is this type of mentality which sometimes leads to other people "evening out" those scales.

Perhaps we could consider such actions a favor to God. Surely He has enough to do.

How about my anti priest molestation campaign? Shall we stop addressing this persistent problem merely because it is old news?
