Deuteronomy 30:19
"I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life"
What do you suppose it means to choose life?
Does it mean overhauling your current lifestyle?
Or is it personal for each individual? My hang-ups are completely different than someone else's, and what you may struggle with, I don't give a second thought to.
Nobody is capable of living a perfect life, or always making the right choice, so how do you choose life?
And is it okay to NOT choose life, occasionally, because we're still sinners....right?
I'm open for discussion.
Edit: let's not forget that God said this in the pre-Jesus Old Testament, so He probably wasn't referring to being born again.
@chaney3 saidInterestingly enough, we have free will to choose life.....yet humans are born with the inclination to choose death.

Alcohol, drugs, porn, gambling, overeating, excessive spending, cigarettes, cigars, etc.
People dismiss what's not an issue for them, yet condone what they themselves do.
@chaney3 saidDid you read the very next verse about Love God and OBEYING ..

That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, ....(Deuteronomy 30:20 KJV)
Love God and Obey the commandments = Life. Anything else is death. Jesus said the same thing.
What is the question?
@rajk999 saidNobody is capable of obeying, at all times.

@chaney3
We should not fear. We should take in Jesus. And then take in Jesus some more.
We should start the day with Jesus if we can.
Starting the day in fellowship and prayer goes a Long Long way to living through
Christ.
Just like in chess it is important to make sure you get your share of the middle of the board so being strengthened in Christ. You START the day with the Lord dedicating some amount of time for prayer, Bible reading, praise, whatever you have some time for.
IF we "eat" Him we will live because of Him. garuanteed.
"As the living Father has sent Me and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also shall live because of Me." (John 6:57)
@sonship saidJesus for breakfast?

What's wrong with toast?
@sonship saidHilarious.

I was thinking, 'at least sonship hasn't said about eating Jesus," and then bang, there it is at the end.
@sonship saidAny confused Christian reading this, don't follow sonship down the cultist rabbit hole of thinking Jesus actually meant for you to eat him.

He was talking about 'belief' not cannibalism.
@sonship saidDeuteronomy is pre-Jesus.

@chaney3 saidI think Jesus is meant to pre-date Deuteronomy.
Deuteronomy is pre-Jesus.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God."
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWhile we may have the privilege of knowing that today, the readers of Deuteronomy didn't know.

So what did God have in mind at that time?
@chaney3 saidThat is a lame comment typical of church Christians. You started going to church.
Nobody is capable of obeying, at all times.
Except Jesus.
Are you capable of obeying some of the time? If yes then just shut up and do what you are capable of. Do you know the parable of the talents and what happened to the fool to told Jesus that he was not capable of doing anything ? Read it and see if you would like Jesus's response to people like you.

Your abrasive attitude doesn't change that fact.

So what did God have in mind at that time?
Life = The blessing
Death = The curse
That particular passage relates to the covenant God wished to establish with his people. (Who have to use their freewill to choose it, as opposed to life without God - death).
@chaney3 saidDid someone say everybody was capable of keeping the commandments all the time?
Nobody can obey at ALL times.
Your abrasive attitude doesn't change that fact.
The fact that you choose to focus on that means you do not want to keep any of the commandments any time.
You looking to get cast out....
