@chaney3 saidI don't. I think the word has been rinsed of much of its meaning and impact, so it's rather moot. dj2becker used to talk about how being angry with your brother is "equally as evil" [or depraved] as exterminating 6 million Jews, and KellyJay recently declared that he is "equally as evil" [or depraved] as a rapist. It's pretty much a waste of time discussing morality with such duckspeaking ideologues.
Does anyone admit to being depraved?
@fmf saidIn another thread, KellyJay equates homosexuality with sin. It's possible that people will label themselves or others as depraved based on the thoughts of lust and/or sexual desires.

@chaney3 saidAccording to some writings that describe KellyJay's God figure, Homosexuality is portrayed as a transgression of divine will. With plenty of lingering anti-homosexual social norms, which can bear down very heavily on a person, there are certainly homosexuals who are very uncomfortable with themselves and their environments. Maybe there are some, especially those afflicted with religious Indoctrination, who see themselves as "depraved".

@fmf saidIndeed. And there are some homosexuals, especially teenagers, who commit suicide due to that stigma. Instead of embracing how God may have made them, there are extreme feelings of inadequacy and that something is severely wrong with them.

@chaney3 saidYou are mistaken. The word 'depraved' does not exist in the KJV version version of the Bible. If it exists in another version please provide the references.
This word is used frequently in the Bible to describe the nature of humans. Wicked and evil.
It's a very strong word.
Does anyone admit to being depraved?
I don't.
@rajk999 saidYou are likely correct, as far as the specific word 'depraved', because a quick Google search shows some translations, ISV being one, using the word.

However, the definition and synonyms of depraved are: wicked, vile, corrupt, perverted, sordid, sick, etc.
The willingness of some to freely put themselves in this category is what sparked this thread. Especially viewing homosexuality as depraved and a sin.
Edit: I may have been mistaken in the frequency of when the exact word is used, in some translations, but the synonyms of depraved are just as bad, and appear everywhere describing humans.

@chaney3 saidWe do not get to decide what is and is not a sin. Sins are clearly stated in the bible, but for those who do not believe, what the bible has stated is irrelevant. We do get to decide how to categorize ourselves whether as wicked, vile or otherwise. Some Christians feel it is a virtue to degrade themselves to that level.

@rajk999 saidJesus never commented on the issue of homosexuality.

It seems unlikely that God would create a human who, from a young age, is totally attracted to the same sex, then condemn that person for eternity.
So the real question is how much a person believes what is written in the Bible, and who wrote it, and if it makes any sense with real life. A person should not crucify themselves for being born a particular way.

@chaney3 saidLike I already said, if you do not believe what the bible says, then what is says has no bearing on your life and you can and should proceed doing as you wish.

@rajk999 saidWhy can't there be a discussion about the validity of some things in the Bible?

God created Adam and Eve, and claimed His creation was "very good". A few chapters later God stated that all of His creation lived to do evil. Then at Noah's time, God regretted creating mankind at all, as if He was unaware of what was to unfold.
Clearly something is wrong.
Edit: Genesis 6:5 says it all.

@chaney3 saidYou must have a short memory. Every 6 to 12 months you start these discussions on the same topic as if it is the very first time you are doing it.

@rajk999 saidI have made valid points. If you don't want to participate in this thread, that's your choice.

In my above post, clearly there is a problem with scripture. Instead of addressing those points you bring up past threads, that's dodging the issue.

@chaney3 saidWhat standards do you use to identify what is good or bad, righteousness or evil? Scriptural standard is perfection, not something that is sporadic, which means consistency!
In another thread, KellyJay equates homosexuality with sin. It's possible that people will label themselves or others as depraved based on the thoughts of lust and/or sexual desires.
Being judged even by our own standards we are not consistent! We only meet our own standards when we are not doing, or have done, something we regret. We also see our standards by what we condemn in someone else, when we condemn another for things we have done or did shows us our own unrighteousness. We can ignore, or acknowledge that truth about ourselves, to admit our shortcomings before God is a good thing. Ignoring our faults doesn’t make them nonexistent it just means we are willfully blind to them.
Knowing our fallen nature is corrupt and we will give an account for our lives to the One who made everything, including our lives shows we have fallen and failed. We were made for a high calling with God, He seeks us out for our redemption and salvation for His sake!
