I believe it is a tool of Satan. It takes our minds off of God. It makes us believe we are in control of our own destiny in that we can divine the future. The only way we can truly control our destiny is to use our gift of free will to choose God instead of Satan. If it 'works' at all, it is an illusion, like the magicians who tried to copy Moses' works in front of Pharaoh.
