The body of a primitive people's beliefs concerning its
origin, early history, heroes, deities and so forth, as distinguished
from the true accounts which it invents later.

How about the Big Bang, the beliefs invented were invented just a
little while ago so the word primitive doesn't apply I'd say, so what do
we call those that believe in that, arrogant, supercilious, there should
be something since primitive doesn't really apply?

Big Bang is not a religion, let alone based on some older mythology, so I
fail to see the relevance here.

Isn't there a story about Mars and Aphrodite being caught in flagrante?

That seems like it would fit.

How does that fit this thread? Call me stupid. 😕

And it's Mars and Venus (roman) or Ares and Aphrodite (greek), by the way.
Just splitting hair to cover my stupidity for the time being.

The normal Big Bang idea does not involve deities. However if you add Ares and Aphrodite, and imply something else when you say "Big Bang..."

Christianity is indeed mingled with some Greek mythology. I don't deny the fact. That is part of what corrupted the original doctrines. Some of them involve the trinity, the dead being alive, etc. All concepts that infiltrated the bible....

"The true accounts which it invents later"? Are you making this stuff up?

Have you got anything to say about mythology or are you just making another lame Christian-bashing post?

Lets see what you are saying:
    1. There is such a thing as "original Christian doctrine".
    2. There was such a thing as the Bible before it got infiltrated and corrupted.

How do you know what those original doctrines and original Bible are? How do you know that they too aren't corruptions of earlier doctrines and Bibles?

It's from the Devil's dictionary, and it amused me. That's all.

I looked up Christian and got this:
    CHRISTIAN, n.
    ...text omitted ...
One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not
inconsistent with a life of sin.
    ...text omitted ...

I think it perfectly describes those Christians who insist that 'works' are not a necessity for salvation.
