I see a disconnect in this saying and Christianity. In Christianity, God made the game, and the individual gets blamed for his choices. This saying suggests that we have to succeed the best we can in the circumstances we find ourselves, and if the circumstances demand it, sometimes you bend the rules, and the blame goes to the system, not the individual.
