I don't see why you are worrying so much about whether a believer views this as allegory or as literally true.
Taking obvious myths as literal events holds us back as a species. It leads people to challenge rather than embrace scientific advancements.

Should all terminology be checked with you in advance, to prevent people feeling belittled?
No. What a silly question. "Checked with" me? Why ever would anyone think such a thing? Is this your banter now after being disagreed with and criticized about something.

The words "fairytales" or "fairies" come across as words intended to mock the believer.
To you perhaps. Nobody else has said so. Fabricated stories are well categorized I believe as fairy tales.

You haven't convinced me otherwise.

You don't need to use mocking terminology to challenge people who don't embrace all the science that you do. You don’t need to refer to KellyJay's beliefs as fairytales in order to persuade him not to "hold us back as a species".

You haven't convinced me otherwise.

That's OK by me.

"Ancient Hebrew mythology" and "ancient Hebrew folklore" seem OK to me.
But a fairy tale is a story that belongs to the folklore genre. How can 'fairy tale' be belittling if 'folklore' is acceptable?

I don't think you have thought this through.

Can somebody please get FMF a time machine.

Folklore doesn't have to, and mostly doesn't, feature fairies. Folklore and fairytales are not exact synonyms. "I don't subscribe to your Hindu folklore" is one thing, but saying "I don't subscribe to your Hindu fairytales" is taunting by comparison.

For what? This is an opinion I have held for 25+ years. You seriously think anything you have said about it has changed my mind or that I regret talking about it?

I have tangled with theists with for nearly two decades, hammer and tongs, and have never resorted to such riffs as "fairytales", "the flying spaghetti monster" and stuff about "delusions". You are capable of good erudition. I suggest you do the same. It would reflect on you better.

I think your objections to the use of 'fairy tales' have been weak and poorly thought through.

Fine, I'm OK with you thinking this. Nevertheless, I hold out hope that you will mend your ways.

Cough cough, sanctimonious.

Humour alert.

Besides, I already apologized and conceded that I might be seen as being sanctimonious five pages ago
