The sin wasn't being gay, it was gay rape.
Someone in the story even offered up his daughters to be raped instead of the guests, who may have been angels? I forget.

I cannot imagine that being gay is a sin, because sexual preference is from birth, in my opinion. Besides, Jesus never commented on the subject. There have been many teen suicides from desping themselves, due to their sexual desires, and that's a real shame.
Whether or not you can imagine it, homosexual acts are sinful. The point being made here is that God did not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah for the sin of homosexuality or even gay rape as Christian Churches preach. The story in Genesis did not list the details of their sins but the writings of the prophets did. Here is on of them:

"As surely as I am the living God," the Sovereign LORD says, "your sister Sodom and her villages never did the evil that you and your villages have done. She and her daughters were proud because they had plenty to eat and lived in peace and quiet, but they did not take care of the poor and the underprivileged. They were proud and stubborn and did the things that I hate, so I destroyed them, as you well know. (Ezekiel 16:48-50 GNB)

So sins that God hate and which are considered serious are, pride, greed and selfishness and not caring for the poor. These were also sins condemned by Christ during his ministry.

Here in Proverbs, Solomon summarises what God hates:
These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look,
a lying tongue, and
hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,
feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and
he that soweth discord among brethren.
(Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV)

Notice the absence of sins of a sexual nature, which are sins nevertheless, but which are not considered grievous and hated by God. It appears that the sin of homosexual rape is not grievous or serious enough for God to destroy these cities as preached by churches.

You are completely and deliberately missing the point. If the statement 'the wages of sin is death', was applicable here then why did God not destroy all cities of the world, because surely all have sinned and according to you all sins stand on equal footing.

The fact is not all sins are equal. Some are consider grievous, some are minor, and some are unforgivable.
Have you studied scripture, what does the text of that story say?

It’s easy to suggest sexual sins are not important if you don’t look at text that says they are!
