If the majority used to be polytheist, and are now monotheist, then the majority can evidently be
wrong.
I am not certain what most Chinese people would classify themselves as. There seems to be a wide range of beliefs in spirits of various kinds, but prior to the introduction of western religions, I am not sure that they believed in any form of God/gods, but rather spirits.

That said I would say that belief in god is stupid, and if you go back in time the proportion of the
population that would have claimed religion gets close to 100%.
This didn't make them right then, and it doesn't make them right now.[/b]
Neither did it make them idiots.

For googlefudge:

You said, "...............if you go back in time the proportion of the
population that would have claimed religion gets close to 100%."

The reason for that is that the people were closer to the source.

Since the various religions disagree with each other, there can be absolutely no doubt that the majority of the worlds population is wrong. Whether that is good reason to call them idiots is another matter.
I think I pointed out to you that Christianity is the only one on the right
track and even false teachers have infiltrated it.

I have not visited this forum in many months. Trev, you just can't give it a rest, can you? That tells me that you have a war going on inside that won't let you stop fighting. That also tells me that you are never going to be at peace until you make peace with God. I may have a soft head in your opinion, but at least I have a soft heart to go with it.

On my last day in India i spent a couple of hours giving little bars of chocolate to some of the homeless kids on the streets, by the end i was in tears watching their happy reactions. You don't need to believe in god to have a soft heart.

To be honest i don't really care if someone has a religion or believes in god or not, just like an opposing sports team i just like to have fun with it. Please don't take it so personally, it's certainly not intended to be.

And again, you can make idiotic decisions without being an idiot.
Neither the OP nor myself called theists idiots... we called Theism Idiotic.
There is a difference.

I had to smile when I read about you handing out candy bars to children in India as mr. ale did the same thing! He was wearing the Army Air Force uniform and it was from 1943 to 1945. He was helping fight a war, but India was where the First Radio Security Group was stationed, so he had been trained in the International Code and Morse Code. This seems a bit odd because he was the Top Sharpshooter" in his battalion in boot camp...hitting 99 out of 100 targets in dead center. Another North Dakota farm boy who was trained in the way of hunting rabbits for food when times were lean. Incidently, there were probably more beggars and street children in the 40's than there are in this century. He said he stil has the stench in his nostrils.

Glad i could bring back a few good memories 🙂

As for this, i'm not so sure. Population is a lot higher now, homelessness and poverty is a serious problem in India. I'm sure there's some stats somewhere on the web, it doesn't matter in which decade had more though, it shouldn't be a problem to begin with. Seeing this in India changed me.

Their religion prevents them from eating meat. So they have a temple to rats and make sure that they have plenty of milk to drink...never mind about the starving babies. I believe there are temples to cobras, too. Then there are the sacred cows wandering in the streets.

I regret to note that Mr. Ale remembers only the stench, the temple of rats, temple of cobras(?) from India. Human beings and their dirt smell the same all over the world, whether white skinned or dark skinned. It may be of some interest to all westerners that India is probably the top producer of milk in the world. Population of 1.23 billion does create problems of poverty. Things have immensely improved now. When one takes the 3 wars with Pakistan and 1 war with China plus the terrorists, our growth has attracted praise and envy from many. Time for all India bashers to revisit us. Please do bring your deodorants with you.

My favorite are the sky burials where people are taken to the top of buildings and fed to vultures.

I am amazed at the snide comments which continue to be made about India and the amount of ignorance that is displayed. The days of the ' drain inspector ' Catherine Mayo seem still to linger. USA,UK and other advanced countries have benefited from loot of inhabitants of the nations which they enslaved or killed off. The shoe is nowadays on the other foot. Ask the Chinese. After some days, ask the Indians, too. By the way, Hindu religion proscribes eating beef. But not other meats, which many Hindus enjoy.
