A few years ago, I had a conversation with my father-in-law, a who's Catholic. Knowing my former background as Christian, he said "It's like the Bible says: 'cleanliness is next to Godliness'." I told that that was not a biblical quote. He said "How do you know? Have you read the whole Bible?"
There are a lot of sayings or stories that people believe are from the Bible, which actually aren't: the Serenity Prayer, the story of the Footprints, that gambling is a sin, suicide is a sin, masturbation is a sin (like if you fantasize about your spouse who may be away for whatever reason).
