@kellyjay saidInteresting how you harp on this, something Jesus never said. Yet the things Jesus said about being merciful, charitable etc and keeping of the commandments are not things you ever mention.
All have sinned and fallen short this includes those who attend church, going to church doesn’t change one’s nature.
You do not lift up and encourage people to live righteously the way Jesus did. Instead you belittle and denigrate .. typical church tactics designed to exercise control.
@rajk999 saidKellyJay’s platform here is not about good works or bringing people to Christ so that they be saved from Christ (yes that reads as I meant it to); it’s about him more or less saying:

- we are all as evil as rapists even if we haven’t raped
- so if you’re not saved Jesus will burn you in hell for eternity being that evil
- I’m saved and you’re not because I believe in Jesus, so he won’t burn me like he will you
- Jesus only saved a few who found the gate
- you’re not one of them so “tuff cheese” and eat my doctrines!
@vivify saidYes, which is why I don't get why we're being told this as if this was something new.
The same goes for anywhere, not just church. A politician who acts all righteous in public but behaves the opposite away from cameras is just as much of a hypocrite.
Same for a cop, judge, forum poster, etc.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidThis might make more sense, but again, I think most people understand the concept.
I think he meant 'untrue' not 'true.'
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
-- Matthew 6:5-6, KJV
@suzianne saidGod is one, and that is more than just a number it is who He is. As I have pointed out earlier He being love, truth, good, holy, righteous, and so on is what we were made to reflect His image and now we do not. We cannot because we have turned away from Him into ourselves and when we do that we don't act like Him. We can set aside goodness to promote something we like, righteousness, for something else we like, and when we give our grace more times than not it is at the expense of justice. When we present a persona anywhere that isn't an accurate representation of ourselves we do so at the expense of truth.
So what is your main point with this thread?
I think we all get that this goes on.

@suzianne saidLove that text it helps me keep in mind to be authentic alone in group, in private or public.

@divegeester saidSadly the man does not realise how far his is from the doctrine of Christ.

@divegeester saidIf it weren't for you claiming a "savior" that saves everybody, no matter how evil, no matter how they treat their brother, no matter if they accept his teaching or not, you'd be an atheist.

@suzianne saidI don’t believe in eternal torture.

I don’t believe in a failure savour who only barely managed to save a “few” from that torture, or annihilation.
So that leaves one option, no one goes to hell or damnation.
Therefore…
Everyone, every human being is saved from eternal torture and annihilation in the afterlife.
Salvation is for this life. Paul said “work out your own salvation” meaning in this life.
Once I distilled out what I don’t believe, what remains is what makes sense when considering an all powerful, all knowing and all loving God.
How did you work out what it is you do and don’t believe Suzianne?

@suzianne saidAt one point when Jesus was walking among us people wanted to make Jesus King, Jesus left them. They wanted Him to be the king they wanted, Jesus didn’t need them because He is already the King and God wants us confirmed in Christ image not Christ into what we want. When people reject the God of the Bible for one that they fashioned to their liking it is the god of their imagination they worship not God almighty.
