Partly because the end of the world is not something you can buy your way out of unless the prediction is made by someone offering an expensive seat in heaven as an alternative (I don't think Nostradamus or the Mayans do that.).

Astute: Having or showing an ability to accurately assess situations or people and turn this to one's advantage: "an astute businessman".
