A certain atheistic teacher was teaching evolution to his class. He explained that after millions of years of evolution it is impossible for a whale to swallow a human being.
A little girl stood up and asked whether the whale in the Bible really swallowed Jona. The teacher said that she shouldn't believe in the Bible, because it's only a fairy tale. The little girl said that one day when she got to heaven she would ask Jona if he really got swallowed by a whale. The teacher asked what she would do if Jona was not in heaven. The girl replied that the teacher could then ask him in the other place.

I like this.

Originally posted by NyxieMy mistake then. I recalled my childhood studies saying that Jonah was swallowed by a giant fish.
And your proof for this?
Or have you been reading the nkjv?
Ketos is the greek for whale. The scientific study of whales is cetology. The greek version had ketos. Fish is a different word.

No, she wouldn't, because her little joke just admitted the possibility of Jonah going to hell. (And what a presumptuous little brat to assume the teacher is going to hell!)
Originally posted by NyxieJonah 1: 17 uses a "great fish" in all the versions I can find. Interestingly, though, when Jesus says the Son of Man will be in the Earth for three days just as Jonah was in -------, the American Standard Version and the King James Version use "whale" in Matthew 12:40. I wonder if the ancient Hebrews even knew what a whale was.
Don't just assert, prove please. Thank you.
