“O, what a world of unseen visions and heard silences, this insubstantial country of the mind!
~Julian Jaynes

Memory...
Inaccurate, at best...
What is its purpose, then?
A question from this Sufi,
Who’s very practice
Zikr
Invokes memory...

In my limited understanding
It’s is the drawing forth
And recognition of experience...
At its height
Shared experience
Nurturing
Divinity...
Essential cosmos
Whispering
“You are mine”
Granting treasured
Meaning throughout
This Life.

Thirty more words and you have an Onion.

One for Yvonne to read, methinks.

I started watching the series this week. It’s brutal and does not largely show humanity in the purest light...yet, there are glimpses as well as fragments of moral philosophy and perspective.

Add to this, sitting a living shiva at the deathbed of the mother of a dear friend....

I have no conclusions, only bits and pieces related to life...

Memory gives each of us our unique narrative. Our narratives give each of us our personhood. The interaction between our nature and our narrative give each of us our moral compass and character. Memory is a foundation stone of both morality and identity

I very much enjoyed by the thought-provoking Westworld series 1. I thought Westworld series 2 lost its way in pretentiousness and trying too hard. I thought Westworld series 3 was like a Robert Palmer video from the 1980s.

It does...and yet...memory is unreliable. At it’s best, it is constantly moving, layered over by more experiences and time...and decaying mortality. If we have sufficient foresight and insight, we periodically peel away those layers not quite believing what we see yet knowing that narrative is the capsule that has brought us here, safely or not.

For us, yes. But not for the androids/hosts in Westworld. All too vivid and "reliable" for them, for sure! Maybe humans are in a constant state of reinterpreting and retrieving memories and renegotiating with ourselves as to what influence they ought to have on us?

Well strap in it’s totally addictive. I found myself totally committed to the cause of the hosts but then it got a lot more morally complex, I can’t say why because of spoilers.
