Yes! I always thought they looked like rat turds which I have seen, but I'm sure mouse turds are just the same. Yuck. I'll opt for nonpareils.

They are not all turd-shaped. My housemate loves to bake and has a shelf full of these things. Some for halloween, some for christmas, etc., and all with about zero food value.

They are pretty, though.
