If There Is No God -Then Everything Is Permitted. Dostoevsky
Every single human action would all be natural action according to
our nature, even the murder of innocents, would have the same
moral consequence as saving a life, as Dawkins put it, we are just
dancing to our DNA, we could expect nothing more; it is just who
we are.
To condemn something as evil implies a standard of good, seeing
the taking of life so callously, so methodically, with no regard for
life is evil and blatantly so.
So instead of talking about that, many want to talk about the
weapon as if that is the source of all murder, not the heart of
someone who could look at a child and kill them. The focus should
be on ourselves, not the weapons we use to murder one another.
Because there is love, and those who are motivated by that have
a standard that is in direct opposition to hate, truth, shows us there
is a way we should be acting, and we should not excuse ourselves
by looking for fault everywhere but in us.
@kellyjay saidVery well put KellyJay!

Some of the biggest issues of the day are of the heart, but people don’t want to hear it.
Wait a couple of weeks when the true heart of many will be on full display for all to see, when Roe vs. Wade suffers catastrophic defeat. The hatred that will surface will make that of those responsible for Buffalo, NY and Uvalade, TX look like a walk in the park.
I wonder if it will even be recognized?
@kellyjay saidNo one here wants to "talk about the weapon as if that is the source of all murder". Don't be so disingenuous. Can you not talk about anything without resort to strawmen?

@kellyjay saidSome of us of course live in societies and have developed a shared morality. Even without a God, it is not permitted to go around eating children.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidAnd?

@kellyjay saidGuns make it much easier to kill lots of people. This is obviously true.

Yes, guns cannot kill of their own accord, but they enable the most psychotic and violent among us to carry out their most depraved, murderous fantasies with little opposition, until it is too late.
I'm all for addressing mental health issues, too, but why can't we attack the problem on multiple fronts? Why can't we consider taking away all the assault rifles?
@bigdogg saidAgain it is not the gun it is who is shooting so it wouldn’t change anything. Why not get rid of music glorifying death, games, movies! Do the drugs that we are prescribing having a negative effect on the youth?

There are a million things we could do! Do you think home made devices would become a thing for someone who is dedicated to massive carnage? The gun is only a weapon that in the hands of good people present no danger whatsoever!

”So instead of talking about that, many want to talk about the
weapon as if that is the source of all murder, not the heart of

Kinda like this? –
“Blessed the one who seizes your children and smashes them against the rock.” Psalm 137.9, NAB translation (other translations specify infants).
I guess your God’s heart is that of “someone who could look at a child and kill them.”
@vistesd2 saidEvery life starts with and ends with God, our responses to evil done to us can be less than nice, which was what that Psalm was about.

@kellyjay saidIf you would NOT be unable to condemn the mass slaughter of children using military-grade automatic assault weapons without your religious beliefs, then thank goodness you have some religious beliefs.

@kellyjay saidYou have fabricated a self-serving dichotomy that need not exist [except in your mind]. I think we can be both. It seems you are desperate NOT to talk in good faith about the weapons, though.
