I do not see that the idea of Christianity is to rule by fear. It is a
relligion of love and self-compliance with promise of rewards for
good behavior. Only those, who wish to do evil, need fear any
punishment. And in most cases the punishment is a good thing
since most of it is meant for correction as we would correct our
own children. 😏

Atheism and evolution is not true and you have no problem with that.
That world view only helps ones, who wish to continue in sin, to feel more
comfortable that they will be able to get away with anything they can
keep away from public knowledge.

I gather that your reference refers to another person quoting Robert Jastrow. This general paragraph I remember reading in about two or three different places in Robert Jastrow's book, "God and the Astronomers".

He was the founder, I believer, of the Goddard Center For Space Flight, a confessed Agnostic at the time of the writing of this book as far as I know. He also held some top position on one of the US's large optical telescope laberatories.

I always thought it was a striking paragraph. I honestly think that he repeats either it or something very close to it more than once in his book.

Interestingly, almost all theists are terrified of the possibility, that atheists have no conscience. They somehow believe that they, or followers of religion, are somehow more honest, well behaved, or otherwise 'good' because of a fear of judgement. Yet in reality, this is clearly not so.

Atheist fear the judgement of man. Christians are more afraid of the
judgement of God, who can search out all our bad deeds. Atheists
believe they can hide their bad deeds from man and escape any man-
made judgement and there will be no other judgement, because they
are counting on there being no God to judge them.
