the Popes have always been chosen by the space aliens...Why ? because they are the ones who established religions eons ago. They did it to try to civilize humans. Then they would return later to see how we're doing...

Give humanity another 10,000 years to evolve out of the nursery; if we survive that long, maybe then the aliens will vouchsafe us another hint, how to live in peace with one another. The previous hints haven't worked out so well.
