And nobody has disputed that. The problem is you are desperate to show that 'atheism' is a belief system so you can't have babies being atheist.

Can you just answer one simple yes/no question? Do you or do you not believe that god(s) exist? All I require is a yes or no answer.
Because that's not a question to which answering yes or no makes any kind of sense.
EDIT: I personally believe that gods do not exist [for a given definition of god] but most atheists
just lack a belief in the existence of gods.

I do not believe god(s) exist.
I also believe god(s) do not exist (not the same thing). But not all atheists have this belief. And in my case it is not a 'belief system'.
I was born not believing god(s) existed. I was then taught by my parents that a specific God did exist and I believed them for a while. I then realised that it didn't add up and stopped believing it. I have never believed that other god(s) exist and over time have come to the conclusion (based on evidence) that they almost certainly do not.

I'm fairly sure that some gods I've read about don't exist, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm certain they don't. If they do, I'm absolutely certain that a lot of the stuff I've read about it or them is wrong, however. And as for the idea of scripture being divinely inspired? Well that's just bollocks. I am staggered that anybody could believe such nonsense.

So what point are you trying to make? That when kids get older they learn to think for themselves and hence make their own decision on what they want to believe? And thus they are not born with a specific belief system as I have been claiming all along?
Originally posted by sonhouseI would agree that that is true for most religions, every genuine article has plenty of counterfeits.

What does "lack belief in God" mean?
"Lack" means deficiency or absence. "Belief" means acceptance and conviction that something is true or valid.
Therefore, lack of belief would basically mean an absence of belief that something is true. But even the meaning of "absence of belief" is debatable. Someone can say, "I have absence of belief in screaming b ...[text shortened]... ical proofs that God does not exist. It is, after all, virtually impossible to prove a negative.
