    Er... lets see now:

    storge: Affection (fondness through familiarity)
philia: Friendship (a strong bond between people who share a common interest or activity)
    eros: Romantic love
agape: Charitable love (love which does not depend on any loveable qualities that the object of love possesses)

    Thanks,

Science shouldn't have much problem with eros (sex). Incidentally "romantic love" was a troubadour invention.

I'm guessing here, but I think that goes with self-interest, especially in the Ayn Rand sense. Perhaps Dr. Scribbles will confirm.

Virtuous Egoism? Sounds like an oxymoron to me.

The idea is that it's in your self-interest to be virtuous. I think some economic models share this idea. I couldn't say so with any authority.

Only in a society where virtue has some intrinsic worth. Its becoming extinct.

Also, you would need to broadcast all your acts of charity to get some benifit out of it.

I don't believe virtue has any intrinsic worth. It is relational in nature, and should be a verb.

So the situation may arise where virtue cannot be in your self interest. Lets take the extreme example of a soldier diving on a grenade to save the lives of the comrades around him.

I'm sure. Unless you hanker after martyrdom.

So risking your life to save your mates is martyrdom?

For arguments sake, the soldier didn't know any of his mates from a bar of soap.
