One of the things about the early church was they didn't have a wealth of Bibles, they didn't have a wealth of scriptures that they could read whenever they had the time to devote to reading them. One of the things they used was called creeds, these were authoritative summaries of the principal articles of faith. You can look up creeds and see many of them, typically what they did was address specific articles of faith putting down what was believed true. This is a song about one of them.
