How is that the answer of a man with full mental faculties?
It strikes me as a bit of evasive self-important waffle ~ which he often employs ~ that exhibits the public-facing values of a small-time, inept politician who blames his own interpersonal inadequacies on other people rubbing him up the wrong way.
I would say it's an issue of cognitive dissonance rather than "mental faculties".
For example, towards the end of 2022, when he was exasperated, he claimed he had no idea what my beliefs were - even after I had taken the time to explain them to him for a decade or more - and that I supposedly changed my core beliefs "every day".
This conversational rubbish was not a mental aberration, I don't think so anyway; it was just dishonesty, pridefulness, and that great big chip on his shoulder.
