In the US football they go into overtime.
Same in Ice Hockey
In cricket there is the Duckwoth Lewis method.
It seems the art of drawing is being lost.
There are rare ties in NFL. Baseball had one couple years back in their all-star game. They called it a tie because they pushed all players through the game in 9 innings and the only guys left were going to blow their arms out if they kept playing.

It was only a few years ago that Hockey abandoned the 'draw'. The new shootout system is a lot more exciting a finish but many have accused coaches of playing conservative during the overtime period to secure the one point and taking your chance in the shootout than going all out in the overtime and trying to win it. I still prefer the shootout though.

Duckworth-Lewis isn't to avoid draws though. It's to handle games that aren't finished because of the weather. You can still get a tie, though they aren't common.
Draws in test and first class matches are still unaffected.

Remember that it's only cup matches that need to have a winner... we still have drawn games in League games, if we didn't Littlewoods would be out of business!

In a way the hockey is still somewhat of a draw. If both teams go to overtime, the losing team automatically gets 1 point as opposed to the winning team getting 2. So in a way it's a draw but I'm guessing not like you'd want.

It's not that it confuses me, I just think it's really sad.
