It works.
If a 2150 and a 2165 agree to draw and the third stronger player of the group is 2130, and every other player of their group is lower than 2050, what do you think? Does the 2130 has an advantage, or not?
no1 I asked you about the number of the subscribers in order to give you a hint.
Over here the subscribers are aprox. 2.582 persons amongst at least 19.300 persons overall. And amongst the top 900 players (from the first Weyerstrass 2460RHP, to the last Vinn 1761RHP), the subscribers are 436 persons. Well, it seems to me that the bigger probability is to see at the final rounds these 900 persons playing against each other.
So, when the RHP Tournament evolves at this phase, I think that the two top players of each group will mostly avoid this strategy because it clearly favours the third top player😵
This would be the case if every player of RHP was participating in the tournament, however I don't know how many players do participate.
I also don't know if the participants do reflect the main RHP pool, but I estimate that the most players that will make it to the next rounds will be by far the strongest of each group (with the expected exceptions) instead of the relatively weaker ones.

If you consider an "exception" something that has happened in every single case where the first two players took a short draw against each other to increase their chances of advancing, then group 13 is an "exception".
Yay! I think I've secured myself a spot in round two. (As long as I dont make any serious blunders) I'm in group two, and the only reason I should progress is Game 5824436, where the players agreed to a draw, even though black had a win. I think Siskin and myself will win all of our remaing games, making our group a tie.
What other groups are close to decided?
I think I've netted Group 76. Just keep on breathing and time-out the non-movers.
I must say:
- I had 2 completely bankrupt positions, really lost situations, which I won eventually.
- I won a pawns endgame which was a theoretical draw.
- ...
So the dominance of the highest rated players is often less strong than the numbers suggest. An 1800-er is far from solid.
