Originally posted by RussThis may be an insane concept, but is it feasible to have a 'handicap' system on a tournament, where the stronger player starts with a reduced number of pieces.
..send feedback. We will create them on demand and see what is popular.
Such as: Less than 200 points difference - no changes
200 - 400 points difference = loss of a pawn (perhaps a centre one Queen or King)
400 - 600 points difference = loss of major piece (knight or bishop)
600 - 800 points difference = loss of King's Rook
800 + points difference = loss of Queen
The above are just basic thoughts, and certainly not fixed, but if it was an unrated tournament (would be harsh for the higher rated player) then it could throw up some unexpected results.
As you can tell from my rating, I'm an average player on my best days, but perhaps a 'proper' player could consider the handicap?
Perhaps the rating handicap could be based on the 5 year average rating, to allow for recent peaks or troughs?

3/7 for 21 players
3/7 for 8
and rating variations of them 1800+, 1650+
I see now fine innovations Hardcore 1800+ 1650+, good thing!
I would compete but at the moment I simply can't afford even so little as renewing a sub, dang.
