play in 2 tournaments at the same time?

If they are different time controls then why not?

Problem comes when you have too many 1-day timeout tournaments on the go at once as my appalling current form attests.

I am wondering if you had 50 or more games going at one time, couldn't you easily drop say up 200 points in a short time??? Question from a soon to be subscriber !!

It obviously depends on the tournaments, and of course how many games you are willing to play. If you play in two duels, you'll still have far fewer games than if you play in one tournament with big groups. A long-haul tournament can take forever, but you can play very slowly, so it won't add that much to your gameload. Thematic tournaments might only be offered once, so if you are interested in a specific opening and it comes up as a tournament, you'd better join even if you are already playing in a different tournament. Etc....

Very true. . .

I find if I have more than twenty games on the go at any one time I cannot keep up, end up being forced to move and then make bad moves and loose games.

There are regular tournaments in which you never play more than two games against one person in each round.

Good fun because you never know what level of ability your opponent will have.

Yes. It is tough to suddenly start 50 games and keep up. It's like going froma 1 mile run to a 10 mile run in 1 day.

But if you work to it, you'd be used to it. As I said before, be careful, do what you can do. More fun not to be overwhelmed.

The reason for the question is: Your opponent in a tourney could be showing oh lets say 1350 for an i.e. , but from having had so many games going at once had lost 200 points. you would actually be playing a player who was rated at 1550. See my point?

I find that opponents ratings can very wildly over the course of a tournament.

well, it goes to, always play as hard as you can against every player...I learned that in a current game against a rated 1300...down by 4 (pts) and even position is a bit of a problem!

Look at my graph. None of those losses are from timeouts are premature resignations....

So you think it has to do with the 85 games you have going? Looks to me like you are rated about 200, less than what your actual rating is?

The point was that I was over 100 concurrent games and in about a 3 week span lost 250 points. The rating is going back up again, but it was an example of your hypothetical situation in progress. The real issue was that I blitzed the majority of the games.

In comparision I've had 150 games in progress at a time in the past and not had my rating suffer noticably during that time. It helped that the majority were 7 day or longer timeout.

well, I can do one, I just have 8 In Progress.. But I never have had more than 10 I.Progress so I'm not sure on how much I can take 😉...I'll just gradually build I think.

i went from 1150-820 in one day after i subscribed. I did go on too many games and tournamnets (6 i think). Managing 20-30 games is completely plausiable, if you have a specific time control (mine being 7 dyas)
