I resigned, not able to checkmate in 20 moves, although given the strength of my opponent I never considered it likely.

    Game 5851321

    If 15...dxc4, I considered:

cxb Ne7 b7 Ra7 Nf5 and mate may be possible [if f6, e6]; unfortunately Black has Ke8 among other moves forestalling mate.

    If 16...Kxf7, then Nxe5+, and I considered Ke6 Qxg4+ Kxe5 Bb2+ d4 Qe6#

It is fun to play in a more open style.

I agree that 20 moves wasn't sufficient, given the difference between our ratings. It will be interesting to see the experience of the other pairings. It definitely changed the game to have a goal of surviving to the twentieth move. I think the stronger player should get 25 moves at least, given a 500 point difference.

    Very interesting experiment, though...

i know what both of you are saying, to be honest i didn't really want any games with a 20 move minimum in the first round but got 2, it will be interesting to see how the other turns out as it is completely on the other side of the chess spectrum.

i'll see how it turns out but it's more than likely that i'll change the minimum number of moves to 25 next time i try this. or at least widen the gap in working out the number to moves to gain victory.

I drew Diet Coke and sent him or her a message to start. He/she hasn.t moved in 11 days. No Vac. No responce. What should I do?

out of interest, what rating if any would you feel that a 20 move target was achievable?

I could beat sub-1200 players in under 20 with some regularity. I have mated much higher rated players in under 20, but the opponent has to give me very much help so it is not particularly pleasing for me to mate in 20 moves.

Odds games and blindfold chess is preferable if I were to give my opponent some advantage. However, I am not yet so strong that I am particularly willing to give my opponents here such an advantage - for instance, coquette scored a win and a draw against me in CC after all - although my strength is such now that I do not suppose that she will get a result against me ever again [but if she were to manage it - good for her!].
