The stronger my oppponents the better. Thats why I am joining 1800+ tournaments. But I am playing a guy with 1470 rating points. How come?.
For example I'm playing a chap with a current rating of 1085 but he's playing 1716 games at the moment and he's lost 5039 over time by timeout.
His other ratings are 1760(90 day) 1832( yr) and 1973 (5 yr) His t.e.r is 1732.
This is not an isolated case by any means and a perfect example of why the ratings systems doesn't work very well.
The system will only take into account his current rating when I win or lose my game so if I win I'll just get a few points and if I lose I'll lose a lot because "the system" says I should beat him easily(my current rating is 1487).
I stopped bothering about my current rating years ago.It doesn't mean anything.

Another thing I don't like, is that banded tourney,s go up in 50,s from about 1200. But when we get to 1700ish, we get tourney,s advertised as 1700+ or 1800+. How can that be fair. What chance do I, or many others have, when 2000 to 2400 players are entering tourney,s 1800+. This just puts us 1700 to 1800 players off, entering Tourney,s.
