All new tournaments (from today) will now start within an hour of filling, or shortly afterwards. There will be some exceptions where tournament starts need to be managed, but these cases will probably be limited to super sized tournaments such as site championships.

In all tournaments, the last player entering a tournament will close the tournament to further entrants. This means they, or any other entrant, cannot withdraw.

Sounds like a good idea.

Just one question, though.

Do you mean that the last entrant in the tourney will not be allowed to withdraw, or any player who joined the tourney will not be allowed to withdraw later?

That's right.

How will that work where a "sandbagger"* is the last to join a banded tournie?

*Player of low rating, with a previous much higher rating (more than 100 days ago), who joins a tournie so as to have a high chance of winning.

There are many on this site who get really hot under the collar about this.

I'm losing to some players lower rated than me. I'm going through a hard time right now. 😳 :'( 😠

These tournament auto starts seem to be taking much longer than an hour to start. Anything wrong? 😕

You are right. Tournement 2274 titled "July 2007 Quartets II" should have stated yesterday morning according to the new rules.

Yes.

We had a few miss-fires, so only the smaller tournaments are being started in this way until the problem is resolved.

Hi there, good to see improvement that goes in here. But how can I find information about site championships tournaments?

A useful extension to this would be to auto start tournaments which aren't fully subscribed, but beyond the minimum number of players necessary, after a published date. So tournaments would start when they are fully subscribed and as soon as they are sufficiently subscribed to start after a preset date.

PS - I've just discovered the urgent games feature - very good!
