(There's actually a hidden psychiatry joke in the above, as Lecter would have been taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors and been fully aware that when taking this medication the 3 things he would not have been allowed to eat were liver, beans and wine. - Basically Lecter was cracking a private joke about not taking his meds).
