I like their studio albums. If I put American Beauty or Terrapin Station in my CD player in my Jeep on Monday, it'll often be there the following Monday. Still, the studio performances don't capture the spirit that is present in live performances.
Right now I'm playing 1970-10-23 - McDonough Arena - Georgetown University, Truckin' ->The Other One ->Not Fade Away ->Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad ->Not Fade Away: close to 25 minutes of continuous song
This weekend I was listening to several performances from October 1980 in New York City.
Wharf Rat
Sugar Mag
Brokedown Palace (favorite encore)
Help On The Way/Slipknot!/Franklin's Tower (One From The Vault - Live)
Morning Dew
Bird Song
Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain
Jack Straw
Looks Like Rain
The Other One
China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider
Sugaree
Eyes of the World
Friend of the Devil
Box of Rain

Is it possible to pick a favorite?
Some good ones that spring to mind are the "Dark Star" on "Live/Dead", "Dire Wolf", "Ripple" (this song makes me cry if I'm drunk and unprepared), "Eyes of the World" and a really excellent live version of "Mexicali Blues" with some sort of accordion. I'm not sure where the latter is from.
EDIT I know it's a stretch to call him a "good singer", but does anyone else find Jerry's voice really captivating?

EDIT I guess ATY agrees 🙂.
Bob Weir sings Mexicali Blues, but Jerry does some terrific guitar work.
