i'm listening to some of his stuff for the first time in ages (Sign'o'theTimes, 1999, Controversy, Cream, Gett Off, Kiss, When Doves Cry) - i used to like this, although the genre isn't really my thing. now i find myself kind of mainly disliking it and feeling it sounds hopelessly dated and superficial. any fans of his in here? i guess i still like Controversy tho.

I'm not really that much into Prince but I really like Sign O' the Times.

One of the most overrated musicians ever, IMO.

i'm getting back into it now. i think i was just startled by the sheer 80s-ness of it. i think the thing to notice about his best stuff is that it's kind of minimal (for pop) - his songs have no right to be so funky with drum machines and such sparse arrangements.
"Sign'o'the'times" is a classic example.

Are you now the formerly known fan of Prince?

actually he became a Jehovahs Witness, and may have had some crisis of conscience with regard to the name Prince, please i only speculate but its possible, however, i do not know if he still professes the faith and has always seemed quite 'camp', to me. i like the songs that he wrote for The Bangles! awesome band!

I never really like him, although I confess to previously owning 'When Doves Cry' on a 45. Pretty scary, huh?

I've got a tasty collection of soundboards from over the years of him playing unannounced shows in bars and cafes and clubs after big gigs. Covers, jams, weird versions of familiar tracks. Loads of jazzy stuff. He is brilliant. And his body of distinctive work makes him a great. My favourite studio album (and era) is Lovesexy.

He is a live performer without peer.

Anyone who can't get into Prince just a little bit likely has no soul or is probably British.

by British, you mean those that dont go in for tacky and glittery cow-horns on the front of pink Cadillacs covered with furry leopard skin seats?

What does that have to do with his music?
