The point of the 2 minute silence is not to grieve, but to remember and be thankful to those who fought.
That's why its called rememberance day!
recently my college has had a memorial placed in the grounds to thank the people who came from the surounding area for giving up their lives for the Country and future generations (Us), I did wonder however would the money be put to better use if given to the veterans or some peace or charity organisation?
Originally posted by catfoodtimYeah, Weadley was right. You are a Turdsmacker. I didn't understand what you meant by "Americanization" of grief because I've never witnessed such a phenomenon and didn't know we had set a new trend for grieving. If that is the case, out of respect to all veterans, me included, and in the name of "Americanized grief" please stick a bottlerocket up your ass and see how close to the moon it takes you....🙄
chancermechanic, i admire your doggedness. the world must be a very simple place to you.
if you don't understand something, it must be socialism mustn't it?
it's interesting you think america is the last bastion of the stiff upper lip, polite society and reserve.
the rest of the world sees you very differently.
Originally posted by catfoodtimNice way of completely dodging his question. Again, where are these lasershows you speak of? We certainly don't use them here in the states. Yet you insist on saying that is an Americanized concept. So... how about giving us a couple examples. Maybe you've attended some bizarre lasershow extravaganza in honor of some veterans? If so, I would be very interested in hearing about what it's all about.

I respect those who think timed silences are a good way of making obeisance to the dead, but personally I'm not keen on them at all, partly because they provide a golden opportunity for barbarians in football stadia to slander and scoff to what is effectively a full house (in space, no-one can help hearing idiots scream), and partly because I'm no more keen on people attempting to socially coordinate the way I honour the fallen than I am on them attempting to socially coordinate any other opinion or personal practice in my life. For me the two-minute silence is on a par with the Mexican Wave, but - like the public display of charity-wearing that is poppy-wearing - I appreciate that it works for some people, so good luck to them.
Originally posted by Great Big SteesI didn't twist anything up. I just responded to an accusation that is false, at leat from my point of view, so butt-out unless you can see through catfoodtim's bullchit and make a point. Go back to sleep, boy.....the neurons in your "pea brain" need rejuvenating.....
How is it that an interesting and meaningful topic can be twisted into a dustup between 2 PEABRAINS from opposite sides of the Atlantic? Grow up boys (and you are).😴
Originally posted by AmauroteI agree. Although if I'm honest I don't necessarily stop, and give reverence to others, alive or dead as much as I ought to.
