Q: Do you know half of everything there is to know?

Q: Have you ever thought of the possibility that God may exist in the other half that you don't know about?

A: No...
Why don't you be more honest with us and admit that this is not what "one atheist" said, but rather a story made up by John M. Maisel in his ridiculous pamphlet "Is Jesus God." Perhaps you've never read the pamplet? Perhaps it came down to you through the fundie grape vine like a mysterious urban legend? I cannot implore you more to think just a bit before sucking up every little bit of gossip that comes down that channel. Anyway, here's a link.

http://www.meeknessandtruth.org/articles/IS%20JESUS%20GOD.htm

You'll find the part you dropped in here. In the pamphlet it comes on page 8, I believe.

Now I wouldn't go digging for anymore arguments in that refuse pile. You'll be in for a real bruising when you go up against some one with half a brain and a little better information. Here's a link to one well known rebuttal (actually a letter sent to Maisel by a philosopher)

Oh yes and my responses.

Q1: Pretty sure I don't.

Q2: Probably not.

Q3: Uh . . . didn't I just say that I do not know even half? What other half are you talking about (stupid Maisel)? Do you mean do I think that there is a god or two or three out there that I haven't encountered yet? Maybe. It's rather silly to talk of some god existing in a set of knowledge though, unless of course this god is only a concept.

Worse still it assumes that which it must show. Plainly that whatever "God" this is must be able to be known. That is it cannot be internally inconsistent. Asking whether "God" could exist in the knowledge you don't yet possess could very well be answered "No." if the properties attributed to "God" make it clear that it cannot be known.

Anyway, plain drivel the whole thing. Giving creedence to arguments like this one turn us into agnostics about everything at which point the whole thing ceases to be interesting. No more time for crap like this.
On to more intelligent stuff, like my damn finals!

Wow!!! This poor kid is getting sliced and diced in here. My advice dj2becker is that, according to your profile, you are 19 years old. You might want to sit the rest of your forum out because I don't think its going to get any happier here. It's great to have your convictions and believe what you believe but you need more ammo in the chamber to support yourself.
