What did the US Justice Department have to do with the case anyway? It was voluntarily dismissed by the Plaintiffs yesterday.

It seems the DOJ was acting as his lawyers in getting a settlement from the IRS. Both these agencies are in the US Executive Branch, which Trump is the head of. And the DOJ is supposed to represent the People of the US not the President.

The whole thing is simple theft of government funds.

I know of no such allegations against Comey personally.

A long, long, time ago (like 2018), a government contractor at the IRS leaked significant portions of Donald Trump's tax returns as well as those of many wealthy individuals. These showed that Trump had been lying for years about his taxes; in many years he had paid nothing or minimal amounts contrary to his public claims.
