I am a mischievous devil to put you libs on the spot, but a guy in Bible study asked this on Sunday:
If you believe people have a right to the necessities of life, who has the obligation to provide them? Further, why does that obligation belong to that particular person?
And who decides who should provide such rights?
I hope to have a ‘Catch 22’ follow-up.
@AverageJoe1 saidLuke 3:11 -
If you believe people have a right to the necessities of life, who has the obligation to provide them?
And John replied, “The man who has two tunics is to share with him who has none; and he who has food is to do the same.”
The answer, according to your bible, is whoever has it to give.
@vivify saidBut ... the story continues in the next few verses with Ananias and Sapphira who lied and said they sold all that they had, when in fact they did not. They were killed by the Holy Spirit.
Acts 4:32 -
"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had."
The first Christians were also the first socialists.
So the story has far more to it than just being socialist. They were all believers in God, and baptised into Christ by the Holy Spirit, and they were commanded to live righteously, otherwise death could have been the end result.
