“OCCUPY” THUGS ATTACK CATHOLIC GIRLS
FEBRUARY 2, 2012

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on what happened last week in Providence, Rhode Island:
On January 25, Thomas Tobin, the Bishop of Providence, decided to reach out to “Occupy Providence” by allowing the homeless to seek shelter in Catholic churches; the city had turned down a r ...[text shortened]... stopped.

"Attacked"? LMAO!

Though it wasn't an Occupy event (the counter protest was staged by the Rhode Island Anti-Sexism League), good for them. Having a bunch of religious freaks demanding the State take away the Natural Right of women over their bodily autonomy on the steps of the State House requires a progressive response. I have found no independent verification of the claims of the pro-lifers that the counter protestors did any of the things claimed, but if they chanted they have as much right to make noise on public grounds as those who are opposed to Natural Rights. And a few condoms being tossed in the general direction of anti-choice protestors sounds like a funny idea to me; heck according to surveys virtually all of those schoolgirls will eventually use artificial contraception despite what the Catholic Church thinks. Might as well get started .....................................

EDIT: There's seems to be some significant embellishments added from early reports about the protest and counter protest. From the Providence Journal:

Abortion foes holding their annual Rhode Island Right to Life Rally at the State House ended their event early Thursday after several dozen activists from the Occupy movement and from the Rhode Island Anti-Sexism League crowded around the speakers with a bevy of pro-choice signs.

Barth Bracy, executive director of Rhode Island Right to Life, said he had to cut the event short when the Occupy group started to drown out his comments with chants, preventing a Catholic priest from offering some final words of blessing.

There's a three minute video in that link which shows the "thugs" standing around peaceably holding signs. Remarkable that a news photographer from a reputable Rhode Island newspaper missed the whole "attacking schoolgirls" thingy.

Where is your source they were not "occupy Providence" scum ? Every where I read they were.
Where is your source they threw condoms in the "general direction" of the children and not directly at them ? Either way it is disgusting.

All Catholics aren't Right to Lifers making speeches at the RI State House calling abortion "murder" are they? The video in the link I provided as the protestors singing hymns, praying for an end to abortion and doing other religiously themed acts while insisting that public officials change policy to impose their religious beliefs on others. Sounds like "religious freaks" to me.

Who's womb is it, uther's? If it's yours, you can use it as you please. If it's not, it's within the body of someone else and they have a Natural Right to autonomy over it.

You need better sources than the right wing propaganda blogs you 100% rely on.

For one, the woman is a host to a new life. A host.
Secondly, the baby is not hers. It is not her personal property to do a she wishes with it. Where is the child's "natural right" that you always cry about ? Does the Father not have no "natural right" to raise his child, as well ?

Who cares? My statement remains accurate.

Here's a nice picture of Angela Hawkes of the Rhode Island Anti-Sexism League "thuggishly" holding up a sign "between the Rev. James Ruggieri of St. Patrick’s parish in Providence and Rep. Arthur Corvese, D-North Providence."http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/ODE/ProJo/LandingPage/LandingPage.aspx?href=VFBKLzIwMTIvMDEvMjc.&pageno=NA..&entity=QXIwMDQwMg..&view=ZW50aXR5

Who cares?! That makes a lot of sense. "duh I'm a Roman Catholic but I dont care what the Pope says..duh" I think you are confusing Catholics with Episcopalians.

So are you for forcing a rape victim to carry the fetus to term?
