Mostly in our society, we go by self-reporting. When you go to the DMV to get a license or ID, you check a box M or F (I'll have a hypothetical on this later that I insist you answer). So if someone who identifies as a man loses his genitals due to a catastrophic accident but still identifies as male, I'd say he was a male (note by your prior proposed definition which re ...[text shortened]... s and a uterus!

Sports leagues stopped using barr body tests in the 1990s. Politics had nothing to do with it.

Thats completely untrue; sports organizations have been dealing with this issue for years. It is only recently that the right wing propaganda networks have pushed it as a political wedge issue and the present administration try to force a one size fits all solution on every sports event in the country by executive fiat.
