I see it as a spiral, with the US investing a hell of a lot of money on one side and people backed into a horrendous poverty on the other.
The people being backed into horrendous poverty are fools who love war and death. Serves them right for being so stupid. They can live in peace anytime they like. All they need to do is to:
- release the hostages
- put down their weapons
- stop fighting
- promise to stop killing Jews.
