Apart from a few super-rich inheritors, most rich people are rich because they have worked their way up to better paid jobs than others.

Are they less productive than the galley slaves? Shareholders seem to place more value on a successful director than a £5p/h low skill, ten-a-penny, easily replaceble drone.

If you think you are slaving away for not enough return - improve yourself and get a better paid job.

In summary, if we should be eating anyone it is the poor/stupid/lazy (pick any, they are practically synonyms).

You could probably say the same of many taxes.
But how much of that is down to inefficient implementation.

In the UK, inheritance tax accounts for less than 1% of tax,
but that is more than the tax on:
cider
gambling
air passengers
landfill tax
climate change levy
aggregates levy

and about the same as:
capital gains tax
spirits duty
beer duty
wine duty
insurance premium tax

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/stats/tax_receipts/table1-2.pdf

scrap them all and stick VAT up
scrap the TV license fee as well and just fund the BBC from general taxation. Save on all that administration.

And that folks is the harsh reality that most people refuse to accept.

The best thing that ever happened to me was the day I came to the awful realization that everything that happens to me and wherever I end up in life is 100% my fault and responsibility. Luckily I came to this realization at a reasonably young age.

What a load of distasteful crap. You make me laugh, for real. Yeah, the
best thing that ever happened to you is.. blah blah. The truth is, some
people, no matter how hard they work or how hard they try won't reach
the skies. Why? They care too much about others to greedily grab all
they can and move on? Or?..

Where is all the wealth of rich people coming from? I'll tell you where
from. From poor people working their arses off, and actually thanking the
unscrupulous capitalists for giving them that opportunity. HA! It's
laughable. There aren't enough resources on this planet to make it
possible for everyone to make it rich.

So take that false and hypocritical logic and stuff it where you know you
like it. Then shut the hell up. I'm in a mood today and can't stand
reading such crap. 😠

You're right. Fortunately the world needs ditch diggers too.

You're argument relies on the BS that the only way to get wealthy is to "greedily grab all you can" and move on (i.e. screw people over). That is completely false.

Wealthy people do more good by investing their money and building businesses that create jobs and help others to become wealthy, rather than giving it away to charities like the United Nations, a bureaucracy famous for squandering money, says John Stossel:

I was wondering if you think like that because 10 out of the 20 richest person on earth are american?

Do you recall the AT&T case that leads to the anti-monopoly law for the US, where the judge state that if one company has the monopoly on a market it must be more certainly because they have done wicked things to the rest of the market.

I aint sure you really want to know what those 10 great americans have done to get so rich.

Probably just work hard and salute God and the flag every morning.

The choosen ones, I tell you now!

There is a consensus among U.S. Congressional Investigators, former bankers and international banking experts that U.S. and European banks launder between $500 billion and $1 trillion of dirty money each year, half of which is laundered by U.S. banks alone. As Senator Carl Levin summarizes the record: "Estimates are that $500 billion to $1 trillion of international criminal proceeds are moved internationally and deposited into bank accounts annually. It is estimated that half of that money comes to the United States".

...

In other words, an incomplete figure of dirty money (laundered criminal and corrupt money) flowing into U.S. coffers during the 1990s amounted to $3-$5.5 trillion. This is not the complete picture but it gives us a basis to estimate the significance of the "dirty money factor" in evaluating the U.S. economy.

And off course they are so rich that nobody there really worries when Rumsfeld annouced that 2.3 trillions $ were missing.

If you claim that there are other ways of getting rich, tell us. Hard work?
Like I said, a lot (and I mean "a lot" ) of people all over the world can
work like crazy and barely make ends meet. This is true even within our
great western countries. Why is that I wonder? Surely, if you have a fog
with millions upon millions of dollars on his/her bank account, and down
the road (or half a city away) you have people struggling to support their
most basic needs, the rich person has the opportunity to make things
better for the poor one. However, in doing so (s)he would lose some of
his/her wealth, and that (of course) is totally unthinkable. It doesn't
matter if that wealth is a indirect result of the poor bugger breaking
his/her back everyday.

Give me an example of any place in the world where rich people are rich
without actually fooling or using poor people, and I'll happily step aside
so you can keep spraying the wall with your waste of bulls.

Would you consider selling weapons worldwide to terrorist groups as "fooling" ? 😀

Oh c'mon. Many people have become wealthy without screwing over poor people. You can't seriously believe that every single monetarily succesfull person in the world got there only because they took advantage of someone else?

Oh and America is an example of such a place.

Now I'm expecting a rant about how America exploits the rest of the world and so that doesn't count.

Ah no!

Poor people worked really hard on remaining poor, you know!

It gets spent on those things too. The problem is though, again speaking only about the US Federal government, that you have an entity that is so big and economically powerful that its citizens no longer control it. Shrink it down drastically I say and let local governments handle most of the issues sorrounding healthcare, education, police, fire, etc.
So would you be happy with higher taxes if the revenues went to local governments- more accountability?
